Bored Cow or Almond Milk?
Don’t get us wrong — we love plant-based milk, including almond milk. Unfortunately, many milk alternatives lack the flavor, texture, and/or nutrition that makes traditional dairy milk so popular. Before you go to the grocery store and pick up your favorite almond milk, come learn about the benefits of animal-free dairy milk for your body and your tastebuds (not to mention the planet)!
health & nutrition
Like Bored Cow’s animal-free dairy milk, most almond milks are fortified with Calcium, Vitamin D, and Vitamin A. Unfortunately, almonds contain little protein, which means most almond milks have 1g of protein or less per cup. By contrast, Bored Cow contains 8g of real, animal-free milk protein per cup. Flavored almond milk also tends to contain a lot of sugar: around 17g-18g per cup. Bored Cow, on the other hand, has 0g of total sugars per cup. Did we mention it's cholesterol free, and an excellent source of Vitamin B2?
flavor & texture
If you've had almond milk before, you probably agree that it doesn't exactly match the flavor or texture real milk. You may also notice a nutty aftertaste, and it may seem more watery than traditional dairy milk. Bored Cow was designed to look, feel, and taste exactly like the real thing. There’s no nuttiness or watery texture here — just a rich, creamy, delicious, animal-free dairy milk.
impact & sustainability
We believe all plant milks are better for the planet than traditional dairy, but doesn’t mean they're all created equal. Almond milk has one of the lowest CO2 footprints of all the milk alternatives, but almond trees are a notoriously thirsty crop (one estimate found that a single almond requires ~12 liters of water to produce). By contrast, Bored Cow’s animal-free whey protein requires up to 99% less water than whey protein from cow’s milk. We also get our fat from sunflower seeds, which require over 15x less water than almonds.

How Bored Cow Is Made
You may be wondering, "how can something be ‘animal-free’ and ‘dairy’ at the same time?" The secret is fermentation, one of nature’s most magical processes. Imagine a microscopic dairy farm where invisible ‘cows’ chow down on plant sugar, and turn it into real milk protein. It's a new way of making dairy that's better for people, kinder to animals, and easier on the planet.
