Bored Cow is a new kind of milk alternative made with milk protein from fermentation instead of cows.

It looks, feels, tastes, and acts just like real dairy, because it is real dairy. The difference?

Bored Cow is made without animal cruelty, and with a fraction of the environmental impact of conventional dairy milk.

We start with milk protein from fermentation instead of cows! Picture a microbrewery that makes whey instead of beer. This is a new method of making milk ingredients that is 100% vegan-friendly and cruelty free.

From there, we add nutrient rich plant fat (sunflower oil) to replace milkfat, which gives dairy milk its creaminess. Next, we add just the right amount of cane sugar to give Bored Cow a nice, subtle sweetness without needing to add lactose.

From there, we add plant-based ingredients like upcycled citrus fiber to perfect the texture and mouthfeel. Finally, we fortify it with all the vitamins and minerals you'd expect to find in dairy milk. Think: calcium, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin D, and even vegan B12.

And that's how Bored Cow is made!

We like to think of Bored Cow as part dairy milk, and part plant milk.

Like dairy milk, it contains milk protein (although ours comes from fermentation, not cows, which means it's 100% vegan-friendly).

Like plant milk, it contains nutrient-rich plant fats (instead of milk fat) and plant-based sugars (instead of lactose).

In other words, Bored Cow is the best of both worlds — rich, creamy, nutritious, and 100% animal-free.

We call Bored Cow "the first milk alternative to do it all" because it really is! You can use it in all the same ways that you use conventional dairy milk.

Here are just a few ideas:

Drink it straight from the glass. Blend it into a protein-packed smoothie. Froth it for your morning latte. Mix it into pancake and brownie batter. Use it to make (animal-free) mac & cheese. Freeze it to make ice cream.

Because Bored Cow is made completely without animals, we believe it is vegan-friendly, and so do many of our vegan partners and friends. That said, "dairy without cows" is a brand new idea that the world is still wrapping its head around.

Many vegans believe these products should be labeled vegan, because they are 100% animal free, and helping the world transition away from animal-based foods.

Other vegans don't believe these products should be labeled vegan, because they are replicating animal-based foods (to be clear — without animals).

Some vegans simply haven't made up their minds yet, and that's okay. Out of respect for the vegan community as a whole, we don't currently use the term "vegan" to describe Bored Cow.

That's why we call it "vegan-friendly” or “animal-free” instead. It signals that the product was made without animals, and that it contains dairy-identical ingredients.

No one person or company can solve our climate and biodiversity crises on their own.

However, we believe individual actions add up — especially in the United States, where we are responsible for 25% of the world’s historic greenhouse gas emissions, and where we continue to be one of the planet’s top emitters today.

By making the choice to consume more climate-conscious products, while continuing to advocate for radical system change, we can tip the scales against factory farming (and fossil fuels) once and for all!

Bored Cow is shelf stable, which means it can be stored in your pantry until you're ready to drink it.

That said, we strongly recommend refrigerating your cartons before drinking them, because Bored Cow is way better cold.

Bored Cow is produced in Michigan, and shipped from our warehouses in Connecticut and Nevada.

Yes! Bored Cow is 100% lactose free.

Unfortunately, if you’re allergic to dairy (aka milk protein) you will not be able to drink animal-free dairy milk.

The fermentation-derived milk protein we use in Bored Cow is identical to the milk protein found in cow’s milk.

While Bored Cow is animal-free, lactose free, cholesterol free, hormone free, antibiotic free, and cruelty free, it is NOT dairy free.

The only major allergen Bored Cow has is dairy, because it contains milk protein from fermentation.

Bored Cow is certified gluten-free from the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (gfco.org).

Bored Cow is also nut free*, and contains no soy or grain allergens.

*Bored Cow is produced in a facility that processes almonds and coconuts. However, we perform allergen tests to ensure that Bored Cow is completely nut allergen-free!

We always recommend easing back into anything you haven't had in a while.

If dairy gave you trouble in the past, it may be because you are lactose intolerant. In that case, Bored Cow won't give you any trouble, because it is 100% lactose free.

In other cases, it may be because you have a milk protein allergy. In that case, you may have issues with Bored Cow, because our fermentation-derived milk protein is dairy-identical.

This one is above our pay grade! We strongly recommend speaking with your physician about any new changes to your diet during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Like most milks and milk alternatives, Bored Cow is not approved for use as an infant formula. We recommend speaking with your family physician before introducing Bored Cow to children under 4 years old.

Great question. The answer requires a bit of an explanation, but we'll give you the spoiler up front — Bored Cow does NOT contain any GMOs.

Our vegan-friendly milk protein is made using a process called precision fermentation. Basically, we're teaching teeny tiny microflora how to convert plant sugar into milk protein. Picture a microbrewery that makes whey instead of beer.

While this process is a product of genetic engineering, there are no GMOs in the final product, because the microflora are carefully filtered out. That's why you won't find a bioengineering label on Bored Cow. We're proud of what this technology enables — dairy without the cow!

We're proud to report that Bored Cow contains NO artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

Instead, we use natural, vegan-friendly flavors to help make Bored Cow taste just like the real thing.

Bored Cow is made with real cane sugar.

Our Original flavor contains just 3g of total sugars per cup. Compare that to plain dairy milk, which contains up to 12g of total sugars per cup.

Our Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla flavors contain just 10g of total sugars per cup. Compare that to the flavored dairy milks you grew up with, which contain 21g (or more) of total sugars per cup.

Best of all? Bored Cow is 100% lactose free too.

The protein molecules in our fermentation-derived milk protein are identical to dairy (without the use of cows)!

Because these protein molecules are identical and function in the same way, it's possible that those with Alpha Gal may have the same allergenic effect.

We encourage you to take precaution with products containing fermentation-derived milk protein (including ours) and recommend speaking with your physician before introducing Bored Cow into your diet.
